Demonstration outside Government Buildings to show abortion cannot be ignored in government formation talks
Tell the next Irish Government that it MUST expand access to abortion
Ireland’s laws on abortion violate the human rights of women and girls. And people in Ireland want that to end. 87% want expanded access to abortion. 69% think this should be a priority for the next government and 73% want a referendum to repeal the 8th amendment.
But some of our political leaders aren’t listening to this clear call for change. As negotiations towards the formation of the next government pick up a pace, it is time to make certain that political leaders don’t simply ignore this important issue.
What: Join Amnesty International and other campaign partners to demand the repeal of the 8th amendment and the introduction of laws on abortion which respect the human rights of women and girls. Beginning on March the 29th, 12 activists will stand outside the Government Buildings to represent the 12 women and girls we know will travel to the UK on that day to access an abortion. Each day for the next two weeks a further twelve people will join the vigil, its numbers will grow to remind political leaders of the numbers of women and girls who are forced into temporary exile from Ireland to access their human rights day after day, week after week.
Where: Government Buildings, Merrion Street, Dublin 2.
When: Daily between 1pm and 2pm from Tuesday March 29th 2016.
Join us in telling the new government, whatever its composition, that it must not turn its back on the human rights of women and girls here in Ireland. To get involved, please sign up using the following Doodle link: https://mbmr.doodle.com/poll/fmu799anzaz9a356
